Georgia Tech is offering free one-day training courses to industry on the issue of combustible dust through an OSHA Susan Harwood Program grant. By collaborating with safety professionals and fire engineers, Georgia Tech will provide a comprehensive overview of the standards and issues relating to combustible dust mitigation and control.
The course is tailored to reach safety and health professionals, plant managers,
and maintenance and production supervisors from affected industries.
Topics include:
- OSHA's National Emphasis Program
- How to recognize a combustible dust hazard
- Combustible dust hazard evaluation
- A typical deflagration event
- Igniters and ignition
- Prevention and suppression of a deflagration
- Incident management

Each attendee receives a course notebook with all of the course materials.
Georgia Tech's goal is to conduct multiple training courses throughout the southeast. Atlanta,Georgia, has already been host to a training course and the feedback received from attendees was very positive.
